Why are Shadow Bows so unpopular?
Whats so wrong with these bows? Is it the ugly no-detail skin? Is there something I'm not seeing. According to gw wiki they have 10% sundering built in. I bought a max dmg, low req, 15% always (-10 armor) shadow bow today for 10k... TEN THOUSAND. A Storm Bow like that would go for hundreds of thousands.
Whats wrong with em?

Slow and innaccurate, they are basically reskinned horn bows, which unless you want the believed but not documented 20% armor pen, just aren't worth it.

As stated, their refire rate is shockingly slow, and the armor penteration has never been comfirmed by A.net.

Shockingly slow? We're talking .2 secs slower than anything other than low range short/half-moon bows - hardly that much of an issue, especially if a stance, prep or spirit is used, and I don't know where in-accurate comes from, the most in-accurate is the popular flat-bow due to it's high arc, and I'd have thought Storm/long bows due to the longer ranger giving more chance to miss..
I've tested a few bows with my ranger and prefer the shadow/horn/ivory class as they do seem to do more damage.

I suppose it depends what your shooting at
For RPG I dont see it making so much of a difference.. but in PvP these small differences makes the difference between a win or a lose, and so people will spend all their money on obtaining that small competative edge.

I love shadow bows. the black skin makes them really mean looking and being a hunter, i like things camoflague I have a max shadow on weapon one, and a really nice storm on weapon 2, with a perfect longbow on weap 3 so i can cover all ranges.

The shadow bow looks cool as hell, but they are so so slow to me, storm bows seem much faster and have better range. If it was fast as a half moon then i'll use it all day everyday

Well, Gaile Gray hinted at it quite some while ago. I definitaly believe they have some Armor Pentration in it. Does that make them worth it for PvP? No. Are they gimp? Definitaly not.

Uhm, if I understand correctly, the storm bow and the long bow are the same, just different skin.

I don't use any bow with more than a 2 second reload time. Anything slower just isn't worth it in my book. Flatbow at a range, short/halfmoon up close, use RTW or FW if you are worried about strays/strafing. Little reason to use anything else. I suppose you could justify the recurve for interrupting.

I think the mursatt Horn bow just overshadowed the shadow bow for a while because it was the bow of the month for so long.

The refire rate is the same as a standard horn bow at 2.7 sec , the 10% AP is also the same as a regular horn bow, you can do your own testing by hitting something with a hornbow then hitting the same object with the shadow bow and you see the same damage. you also have a 142 ft range. I think its a hornbow. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it must be a duck.

They both fire from 167 feet , 2.5 sec refire rate.

If I would have know more about the game in the beginning, I certainly would have collected more bows rather than buy them. The collectors bows have awsome stats and costs next to nothing compared to Horn, halfmoons ect.
I once was told by a player during a transaction conversation that when GW came out, there was +15% unconditional bows. No -negative factors what so ever. Apparently these got nerfed ASAP. Is this true? Are these bows still out there in the posssesion of some lucky players?

Actually, Gaile confirmed that one of the bows has armor penetration anyway.

I have a slew of collector bows... I love 'em. Also have a bunch of nice gold bows, but TBH I like the collectors better anyway.
As far as 15% always bows, I've never seen one. I've been playing since the last beta as a ranger and never heard of one. That doesn't mean they weren't in the game at some point, but I kinda doubt it.

I always use the collector bows too, but as I said in a previous post - why in the hell can't Anet at least make them look different from eachother. My collector flatbow, longbow & shortbow all look the same The only way to distinguish between them is to use different mods as a reminder.
